The commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Mikhail Drapaty, confirmed that the attack on the training ground on March 1 resulted in casualties among the personnel and ordered an inspection.
On March 1, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that up to 150 Ukrainians, including up to 30 foreign instructors, were killed in an attack with an Iskander on the Novomoskovsky (Samar) training ground of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Dnipro region. The Ukrainian authorities and the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine initially did not comment on this situation.
But then Drapaty said: “A tragedy at the test site <…> An investigation into the circumstances is currently underway.” He expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims, but did not disclose the exact losses. He also did not specify where exactly the military facility was located.
Drapaty said that he had ordered an independent review of all the circumstances with the participation of military counterintelligence, and said that he would hold accountable “those who made decisions that day” and all “those who did not make them in time.” In turn, the Ukrainian ground forces also confirmed the fact of losses, without specifying the number of victims and the location of the training ground.
Another such event occurred on March 5 in Kryvyi Rih when a hotel was hit that, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, hosted Ukrainian mercenaries and military personnel.
