The Chamber of Commerce of Mexico in Italy, CaMexItal, organized a press conference at the prestigious headquarters of the Embassy of Mexico in Italy in Rome, to present the activities of the 2025 program of the México Maravilloso project, which aims to promote tourism, culture, fashion, gastronomy, technology, internationalization and trade. It is a pilot project, something new that is being carefully observed by other countries. The event on March 28 saw illustrious participation from both the Embassy and CaMexItal.

Mauricio Guerrero, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Mexico, spoke first, bringing greetings from Ambassador Carlo Garcia de Alba, and introduced the theme of the meeting, providing significant data on his country. Mexico is the sixth tourist destination in the world, with 45 million foreign visitors in 2024, recording an increase of 18%, with Italy representing the 13th country of origin of its tourist flows. Just in these days he recalled the two years since the inauguration of the direct flight Rome-Mexico City which further strengthens economic, bilateral and tourism ties. Finally, he mentioned the important infrastructural investments that Mexico has made such as the Tren Maya in the south.

Then Letizia Magaldi, President of CaMexItal, took the floor and briefly recalled that the Chamber of Commerce she presides over was founded in 2023 even if it already has a very solid structure, with 100 members, mainly companies and professionals who operate in the countries and who range from the world of plant engineering and mechanics to food and beverage. Magaldi said that Mexico is the 13th economy in the world and the first partner of the USA. The objective of CaMexItal is to intensify and strengthen relations with Mexico. Exports from Italy to the Central American country were 9 billion euros, while to Italy they were 1 billion from Mexico. The President also mentioned the presence of Mexican industries in Italy such as the ownership of a hotel, but also space for a yacht company that has invested in shipyards in Veneto and Marche. Regarding the México Maravilloso project, she said that the aim is to systematize tour operators, travel agencies, culture, food and beverage. The project, in its second year, is financed by both members and government institutions. Finally, Magaldi stated that Mexico will have its own pavilion at the TTG in Rimini and that there will be tours in the Italian peninsula to illustrate the routes, in addition to the fact that tours in Mexico will be held for tourism operators and journalists.

Massimo Ariello, CaMexItal Tourism Delegate, then spoke, emphasizing the desire to continue the promotion of Mexico in Italy and to increase the number of Italian tourists to Mexico, a task entrusted by Ambassador Garcia de Alba, which currently stands at around 160/170 thousand per year. Mexico is recognized for its cultural predominance, like Italy. The Chamber of Commerce has designed a route to touch dozens of cities in Italy involving tour operators who ask for help, recognizing their merit. Going into detail about the fun trips, he explained that they will be in May and November to bring knowledge to tour operators and the press so that they can then work with travel agents. As for the seminars, they are linked to pre-Columbian Mexico, from a historical point of view. The last speaker, Laura Rossi, CaMexItal Delegate Councilor, Fashion, Luxury and Tourism, talked about the Mexican excellences that she has been discovering for 10 years and that we really need to discover Mexicans and their culture. She also expressed her opinion on México Maravilloso, which will be a traveling exhibition throughout Italy that will bring artists, muralists, intercultural exchanges, business, talks, cultural partnerships, photographers. In fact, the aim is to increase commercial exchange, through workshops and seminars open to the public, offering privileged access to the Wonders of Mexico, with the aim of a complete package to make Italians and Europeans fall in love with Mexico. At the end of the conference, it was recalled that since 2018, Mexico no longer has a national council for tourism promotion, so relationships take place directly with the States and individuals (businesses/entrepreneurs) and for now only 1 State is a sponsor of CaMexItal, but this fact that the States promote themselves was a wonderful surprise, with some States that have been rediscovered, and have a significant budget for the sector.

Finally, to strengthen the close ties between Italy and Mexico, Italy will participate as a guest at the 2026 book fair in Guadalajara and next year Mexico will host the World Cup for the third time in its history.
