MEXICO. Aguascalientes “El gigante de México”

A meeting between entrepreneurs, companies and members of the Chamber of Commerce of Mexico in Italy, CaMexItal, took place on April 2 in the historic hall of the Mexican Embassy in Italy, in the presence of Letizia Magaldi, its president, on the occasion of the visit to Italy of the Governor of the Mexican state of Aguascalientes, María Teresa Jiménez Esquivel, known as Tere Jiménez, who came to promote her state and meet Italian companies. The event was also enriched by the participation of the Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology of Aguascalientes, Esaú Garza de Vega, and Ambassador Carlos Garcia de Alba. On this occasion, a collaboration agreement was signed between Aguascalientes and CaMexItal.

The first to speak was the Mexican Ambassador to Italy, who spoke about the important visit of the Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani to Mexico, which should be scheduled from May 22 to 24, the first time in 8 years that an Italian Foreign Minister has visited Mexico, he recalled, underlining that he had met him a few days earlier. Introducing Aguascalientes, he said that the history of the railcar passes through that State, for example with Japan that has been there for 60 years and Nissan. This State in the heart of the Republic is an example of efficiency-effectiveness and public-private partnership in many sectors. The Ambassador also added a note of color by asking the Governor to export one of her favorite foods, guava, to Italy. Finally, he highlighted the growth of 17% in bilateral trade between Italy and Mexico for two consecutive years and presented to the audience and especially to the Governor the initiative, which had already been much spent in the past, of placemats, a project born from his brilliant idea, started in Italy 5 years ago during Covid and then also adopted in other countries. These are placemats – there are 4 types so far – on Mexico in general or on specific states in which the peculiarities, the main attractions, the culture, the gastronomy are presented to make the country known to the thousands of people who go to Mexican restaurants in Italy every day. Ambassador Garcia de Alba extended an invitation to the Governor to take advantage of the capillarity of Mexican gastronomy. An invitation that was immediately well received and welcomed. The floor was then taken by the President of CaMexItal, Letizia Magaldi, who in addition to introducing the Chamber and providing key data on its members, the companies that are part of it, its short history but also its rapid growth, so much so that it currently has 100 members, spoke about the national association of industrial parks, both Italian and Mexican, for the exchange of good practices. Governor Tere Jiménez presented the advantages and characteristics of the State of Aguascalientes, which make it an attractive destination for investment, business and tourism. She also spoke about the security in her State, with the emergency response system in first place in Mexico and the second most reliable police. In addition, they have the first cyber police and cameras with facial recognition. Three industrial parks will open in 2025, while 10 solar parks produce double the energy consumed in the State. In addition, Aguascalientes has 53 global commercial partners, and nearshoring is practiced. The Governor emphasized respect for private property and investments, with legal certainty. A topic on which she also focused attention was sustainability, in fact in Aguascalientes water is recycled, cleaned and used in agriculture, defining the State as sustainable. A claim used is “land of good people” or another: attract, generate, create talent. As proof, the State ranked first at high school level in mathematics in school preparation. Finally, she stated that in the USA the State exports both machines and agri-food.

Lastly, the company VIFRA of the Russo family, with a very young entrepreneur who spoke about agriculture, considering it to be an important sector, and stating that the company deals with hi-tech systems for winters in greenhouses so that everything is sustainable without waste, through humidity/temperature control, in an efficient manner, underlining a new attitude in agriculture. In addition, it was announced that the company will join CaMexItal as a company as a partner.

At the end of the event, to formalize the interest, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between CaMexItal and the Secretariat for Economic Development, Science and Technology (SEDECYT) of the State of Aguascalientes. The collaboration agreement was signed by the Governor Tere Jiménez, by the Minister of SEDECYT, Esaú Garza de Vega, by Ambassador Carlos García de Alba, by the President of CaMexItal, Letizia Magaldi, and by the Executive Director of the Chamber, Andrea Catino.
