#ISRAELHAMASWAR. Israel is getting bigger

32

An intense week for Israel, which is trying to get out of the political impasse and move forward with its project to expand its borders while protecting them. We are talking about the borders with Syria and Lebanon, while inside the country there is talk of the expansion of settler settlements in the West Bank.

One thing is certain: 72% of the properties in Gaza, according to satellite images, are completely destroyed. And if the expansions have been more or less defined, five municipalities in the hills of Lebanon, the Golan Heights and surrounding areas fake Quneitra, Daraa and around the Druze friends of As Suwaida; the internal issue with Gaza and the West Bank is less clear. The West Bank is currently seeing sales of land by Israel to settlers where Palestinians once lived.

An Israeli delegation left on March 10 for Qatar to advance negotiations, without Minister Ron Dermer, while Hamas is reporting positive signs in the negotiations. All this was happening when Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen issued the decision to cut off electricity to Gaza. On March 11, Khalid Mashal, leader of Hamas: “The danger is no longer limited to Gaza and the West Bank, but extends to include Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and that is what the leaders have sensed.” These are the countries that held a regional security summit on March 11 in Amman.

And again Khalid Mashal: “The Arab nation has sensed the danger, but it is not enough. We must do more. We tell the leaders of the nation and Egypt that if it were not for October 6 (the 1973 war), they would not have retaken Sinai, and if it were not for an October 7, we would not have retaken Palestine.”

US envoy Adam Boehler said that a deal on Gaza could be finalized within weeks to ensure the release of all prisoners, including Americans.

The chairman of the Knesset National Security Committee has stressed Israel’s goal of asserting full control over Damascus and preventing any military force from emerging in Syria after the fall of Assad. In short, Turkey, an ally that during the war against Hamas sent food and other things to Israel, now risks being too inconvenient.

The Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, visited the security buffer zone in Syria and held a security assessment with military commanders and appointed General Effie Defrin as the new military spokesperson, replacing Daniel Hagari. Now for the General Staff, with the appointment of Defrin, the men are in place and the war against Hamas can resume even at the cost of losing prisoners.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir discussed the resumption of operations in Gaza, with Zamir reviewing plans for intensified air strikes, an expanded ground offensive, new evacuations in northern Gaza, and the mobilization of reservists.
